Combines Question on Gleaners

The secret is the accelerator rolls - they throw the grain_chaff_husks_snow_grasshoppers_chicken feathers (inside joke!)_etc down through an extremely heavy air blast from the cleaning fan. The heavier grain makes it to the shoe and the lighter stuff like snow gets blown out the back without touching the chaffer. Did you happen to be at the '93 WI Farm Progress Show near AugustaIJ The one that got rained outIJ Then they had the corn harvest field day a week or two later - there were two combines running, a Gleaner R52 and an Axial Flow. Corn was about 42%, very green. The Axial would do a good job for one round and then they'd have to stop and dig the green leaves_husks out of their chaffer. The Gleaner kept running all day and never once had to stop since all the crap was being blown out. Same principle is applied to our wonderful WI snows. As for your first question about Gleaners being invincible - Yes. Yes they are. Take care- Tom langan (WC WI) Where are you atIJ

I went back and re-read your question. I guess you didn't say if the guy was running a rotary Gleaner - my answer pertained to rotaries. If he was running a conventional Gleaner, attribute his success to the invincibity factor! Take care- Tom langan

Yes! Gleaners are made from the same suff superman is made of!!!!!!!! If you leave the engine hood up as you blast through the field it looks like a cape. And the corn head looks like his arms strecthed out forward..

We can harvest some snow if it is cold enough but when the temperature reaches 30 degrees or more it will start sticking on the sieves. Been there..not pretty!

I'm just down the road from Augusta. Osseo to be exact. Yes I did go to the feild day @ Farm progress days that they had there, but I know that there was a deere combining also. I know because my dad and I recognized the driver as one of the salesmen from our local dealership. As for our neighbor he was running a R52 that he just bought this last fall. Another question about Gleaners Do they have a fan then or whatIJ I run mostly deere but enjoy learning about the less common brands in our area. As far as I can tell Gleaner has a good machine and they can run right along with the Deere's in flat ground. Thanks for the info. I enjoy reading the gleaner page you guys seem to have alot of fun in here. Nelson

We're next door neighbors! I'm down here just south of Alma Center. Did you have the balls enough to go to Stockman's on Jan. 1IJ Quite a crowd, but I made it through. Now that you mention it, I do remember the Deere cutting corn that day but they were cutting across the road and doing cob mix if I remember correctly - the Gleaner and Axial were cutting shell corn. NH was a no show - not even for exhibit. What's your neighbor's name who has the R52IJ Email me - he may not want his name all over the net! Don't see too many Gleaners around here so I'm curious who else nearby has "seen the light"! Talk to you later- Tom langan

The lady who cooks those pies at the Norske Nook has been on David letterman a time or two. She really put him in his place too! Silver Bullet - you passed within four miles of our place on your way through here. Next time, give a holler and stop in for a visit. Tom langan

I will do that. Pretty country where you are at. It was the first day or two of August. I don't remember if it was in your area or not but we did see a few fields of oats to cut yet. They looked good. What do you usually get for yields in your areaIJ
