No. The 3500 engine was not an option on the M2. If they offered it on the M3 is another question.

The 670 or 426 was an option on MH2 and MH3's and I think standard on late MH3's. The rear PTO flywheel plate was different on MH3 but the same compressor mounting plate and belt was used as in lM2's and 3's. Compressor mounted to the rear of the flywheel as in all M_l's. The 'air box' is the condensor and blowers you refer tooIJ If so you are on the wrong side or the flywheelIJ.

The belt to run the air conditioner compressor was right in behind the main drive belt and the compressor mounted underneath the engine air filter container on the 2900. The mount holes are the same on the 3500 engine except that I couldn't make the air conditioner compressor fit underneath the air filter container. It looked to me like it was tipped rearward to make it fit on the l2. On the M2 however there isn't enough room between the mount for the compressor and the step in the body (the six inch step down where the engine sits) I think this is one of those instances where a picture is worth a thousand words. Going by what you said I'm wondering if there is more room between the back of the bin and that step in the engine compartment area on the l2's and M3's. Either that or maybe I'm not holding my mouth right while trying to slide that thing in there. I don't know if this is any less confusing but thanks for the help anyhow, Part-time

distance is the same, it is close on the M2's. As stated before the mtg bracket is different on the MH's. The compressor is tilted more rearward on a M2 vs l2 as well. You will have to modify the mtg bracket I assume. You are in virgin territory here I foresee. Good luck . let us know what transpires.

I have another stupid question. I've been around Case diesels my whole life and I've never heard any of them sound the way this 3500 sounds when it starts. It starts out firing on two or maybe three cylinders almost immediately with a knocking sound. As soon as the rest of the cylinders fire and it smoothes out the knock goes away. I'm not using starting fluid either. Is this characteristic of Allis Diesels or do I need to do some serious praying that this engine will last the seasonIJ Thanks again Part-time

I've never seen one but a few late M-3's had the 426.Dealer said it shows in no part books,but they had a new one from the factory with the big engine.

Ah yes, the famous Allis diesel dance when cold. I have 2 M2s and a F2 and when started cold with or without either they spit, bump, jump, knock, smoke, until they get warm. But from then on they are one smooth running motor with all the power you need.
