I was in highschool 30 years ago when the metric system was being introduced here in Canada. The teachers didn't know it any better than anybody else. Now I buy gas by the litre and figure my mileage in miles_gal. I farm by the acre and sell my crop by the metric tonne, although both the tonne price and bushel price are on the sale ticket. I can measure distance in rods which really messes up the young guys when we're deer hunting and tell one of them to block at that tree 40 rods down the fenceline. Officially we are metric but anybody who wasn't raised with it still thinks in terms of the british system. The complete conversion to metric will take a couple more generations.

Thanks for the clarification. Somehow I got the impression that you didnt have any adjustment for test weight. I would still favor going metric because it is easier to use.

G'Day Guy's Just a friendly reminder that it took me a number of years to convert the old boy (ROM) over to tons per Hectare and liters per hectare as I was getting really messed up going from the Header in Bag's (yes Bags! three bushel) to the truck at the silo with tons and at sowing time with the airseeder in lbs_acre to the boom spray in liters per hectare! it seem to be that I could never get the different machinery to match up when in the same paddock!!! and ROM used to tell me that our 30 ft front on our 62 needs to go 22 chain for one acre. What the! Our R62 only needs to go 1098 meters to do one hectare (or 1100 meter when the old boy's driving!!!) Now. Hmmmm, did anyone else get what I was talking aboutIJ Rolf

Interesting reading the above comments.... Here in England we have been metric since 1973 but all road signs are in miles, car Speedos are in MPH we buy beer in pints so if you change don't expect it to happen over night!!! It's also quite fun watching our European cousins trying to work it out...... Maybe you should also consider driving on the other side of the road while youre at itIJ

We already have roads every MIlE. I don't think that's going to change. Why tell someone to go a certain number and a fraction of kilometers when they could count the milesIJ

I always say . It isnt what something is worth,it is what they can get. I wander about the price of alot of things these days. My answer to everything these days. "That Agco wants 500.00 for that because they can." Same reason Potash is 350 ton , Anydrous just went to 500 ton here because they can say what ever they want,we are at the suppliers mercy. IG

Anyone who feels a product costs too much is free to get into the business and try to make a buck selling it. lots of folks have tried; some make it and others have lost their shirts. Regarding the boot cover mentioned in the initial post, it isnt patented so anyone can manufacture and sell it. If there is a huge profit on it, one has to wonder why someone hasnt tried.
