Combines Quick coupler ends on N630 corn head

last fall I asked the same question to my dealer. They quoted me $490 (each) for those couplers. $1,000+ with taxIJ I thought we could do without them at that price. We also do a lot of smaller fields. I have wondered if it is possible, to install the sliding drive shafts on our heads. Now I am curious if anyone else has a different quoted price for those couplersIJ

I've wondered the same thing. I don't think the grain head couplers are strong enough for the load, but I think a machine shop could fab a custom coupler from PTO parts. Too bad the shaft is 1-1_4" and not 1-3_8" like a tractor PTO. I've also looked at the black cornhead and wondered if the drives could be moved out to the ends so a person could install a telescoping PTO driveline like the newer heads. I think it could be done with very little welding, mostly unbolt_reposition_rebolt type of deal.

I ran the quick couplers for years on a 830 on a l2. They never gave us any problems. That chain think is just to slow when changing. IG

I have been using the 300 style grain head couplers (the ones with the push button style lock) on a 630 corn head for about 5 years, first on an R50, now a 62. No problems so far. You will likely need to either extend the splines on the corn head shafts or cut a recess on the shafts long enough to allow the couplers to slide far enough to disconnect (what I did). Not that expensive to do and much more convenient. Keep the splines well greased and wear should not be a problem. Couplers stay on the corn head shafts. Rob.
