That's one way of looking at it. The local NH dealer seems to be proud because the new CRs are a little bit more $$ than the new Deeres. They seem to play both sides of the court. They say, "why buy a used Deere cause it's it's more $$$", but then, "buy a new CR cause they're worth more". Figure that one outIJIJIJ

Sure I understand the real cost of money...but if you understand the time value of money you will understand present and future value of it which has a huge relationship to the cost of money. ie it is used everyday at your local finacnial institution...cost of funds now and in the future. Your cost of money now and in the future..you example of a choice you made on a piece of equipment based on the current value of the money you were spending vs the future value of it..not even bringing up the value of the equipment.

my versatile tractor is still worth the same as when I bought it 10 yrs ago so what are you saying we saved $10000 over a similar deere and lots of repair costs compared to deere and it still has resale above the deere. Deere 4wd tractors sucked till recently and so did there rotor combine oops they didnt have a rotor combine hahaha. I tried to climb in my nieghbour 4440 I'm a big guy what a chore give me an IH anyday.

Great example! You saved 10K when new......Think of that 10K YOU saved or probly invested in some other equipment and did not loan to Deere and co. (by buying green) with a negative interest rate! Hopefully my point will be noted! Thanks John

What model Versatile and what was the DeereIJ If your compareing an 835 to a 8430 or 8630, I'll give you that one. But if your compareing an 876 Vers. to an 8760 JD... your dreaming. Just like you are about the 4440s.

Just got back from the Fastline site.... Avg. asking price of 98-8970 fnh with 3000 hrs is around 60-65K Avg. asking price of 98-Jd 8200 with around 2000 hrs is 72-75K......Keep in mind the Jd has 30 less horse, Hours are way different, and is hydraulicly lame compared to the mega flow. lets say you bought green and I bought blue.....You paid 14k more for less Hp, less hydraulic flow (way less).... Hour for hour my blue has your green beat. Are you a stock holder in DeereIJ btw....REAl cost of money has nothing to do with interest rates or inflation.....It is only in comparing what you want to do with your money, to other options. like me buying 14K worth of beer instead investing poorly in more expensive tractor (but it has a nice cab).....Yes I understand you might get more $ for it down the road, but you paid more, and on a % bases, its a loser my friend....As far as present vs future, I have yet to see any usefull tractor appreciate in value (do not forget to figure REAl cost). You could have bought blue and 14K worth of microsoft back in 98......Youd be smilin.... This was just my situation (maybe our Green dealer is a crook),but that 8200 did not last long Good luck and Good Night

You're living in a time warp there Mondo. In the last 2 years resale on Magnums has probably increased by 50% Compare resale on any 7000 series Magnum with a similar deere from a similar year. You're not even beating a horse, you're just dreaming. And, that 5488 has been worth about the same amount of money for the last 10 years, so big deal if it cost less then, it's still worth about he same now with more hours on it. The only place a 4640 is worth 16,000 more must be in Canada. Do a fastline search and see for yourself comparing similarly houred tractors. Chads

You're missing the point. Just because it's the machinery you choose to use, doesn't make it the best. I'm not saying anyone's opinion is or isn't worth reading but running down the "other" colors doesn't help, it just gets old, and can be misleading to someone who might be looking for good honest information.
