Combines R 62 chaff spreading

I graduated to the rotaries from an l2 last year so I'm still green at this. A couple of observations: I ran the l2 with no chaff spreader and always had a mat of chaff behing the sieves in wheat when it made 40 bu. or over.

I set the vanes on the chaff spreader to their maximum pitch and in the rear view mirror from the cab I see chaff being blown beyond the rear tires so it is getting spread 12-15'. Most of the chaff is seperated on its way down from the seperator rolls to the shoe and is blown to the vanes so there is not much of a trail of chaff off the shoe itself.

I have seen some horror stories with aftermarket spreaders both in price and in related problems. As in the post below I have never seen a real problem created by a OEM Gleaner chaff spreader's job in our area. On one of our 30' 72's we did extend the boards tips , seemed to help a little and customer was satisfied. One can do more with the RH side than the left. AS AN AlTERNATIVE, I do rent out my Mother-in-law ! We equip her with WWI flying goggles and leather helment and put her in a Radio Flyer wagon and tie it to the rear axel with a couple of funeral home fans in each hand.. does a satisfactory job and gives me some revenge.....
