Combines R 62 radiator leaking

Mine is leaking to but its a lot older than yours. Was wondering how big a job it is to get offIJ It looks like it's heavy.

Do you guys change your coolant filters regularly or check coolant with test stripsIJ Test strips and DCA additive arent cheap so I was wondering if they do any good. Years ago cooling systems required little or no maintenance, but today the sellers of those products have elaborate and expensive procedures they want us to follow. A spot of solder is cheaper to repair than a burned up back 2 cylinders of an Air Cooled engine. Both engines have positives and negatives but the Deutz is a MORE EXPENSIVE repair($ for $ twice as expensive) with about the same amount of service needed. Or as my neighbor put it, "His R60 was great until the day it burned up in the soybean field because the fan fins wore thin and the fins plugged and caught fire." He now believes that his R62 is twice the machine the R60 was.

In 1998 the R62's had a bad batch of radiator's the top tank comes loose and starts leaking. talk to the right dealer, the company should replace it they did everybody else's

Good question. I have an R60 with a Deutz engine and really like it. I remove engine sheet metal once a year to blow out the fins and thats all I do to it. There is no daily radiator cleaning like there is on a water-cooled engine. Parts arent cheap but what engine manufacturer isnt overpricedIJ Tom in MN

Tom, I run an N6 and have yet to do a daily radiator blow out. And I run 60% of my acres soybeans. The Deutz engines are hard to sell here in central IA on the combines because of the plugging and burning up cylinders. According to the local Tractor salvage yard, the Deutz is less reliable than the early N6's. They don't even want to stock the R40-70's because the engine is always bad. Tractors are a different thing, they send parts out to fix the combines from them. Also got a chance to stop in and chat with one of the Worthington Salvage yards about some new accelerator rolls for the N6 and asked about the R series since my N6 is a late one and they aren't too crazy about the Deutz powered Gleaner either, they have 3, 2 of which have bad burned up engines and engine compartments. They also told me that if I ever wanted to get rid of my late N6 or knew of any R5-7 series for sale to let them know. They have a market for the last of the AC powered machines as does my local yard. Neither yard like the early N's.

Here in Spain is an opposite case. The Deutz dealer is very good ( they sell deutz-fahr combines and repair deutz engines ) and the repairs is cheaper than john deere or new-holland. Very few Cummins on combines here but i heard that the repair are expensive on Case tractors. If you don't want to repair a deutz engine with original pieces you can buy other brand of repair kits, and it's more cheaper. I run a combine with a F6l913 on it with more than 10000 hours. Never had problems with it and never problems with overheating ( we harvest wheat at 40 C ). My dealer says that repair my engine ( repair crankshaft and camshaft,replace lube oil pump, pistons, cilinders heads, cilinder jackets and injection nozzles ) will cost to me 1,000,000 pts, more or less 5285 US $. John, my experience with late model l2s and M2s was that a daily radiator cleaning was necessary in corn. I have never run an N series. Secondly, occasional radiator repair was necessary in l_M series. I havent had an ounce of trouble with the Deutz in my 10-year-old R60. I never let it get wet and do a thorough cleaning with compressed air once a year. I would be interested in buying early R series machines for salvage. We regularly part out whatever we can buy but all R series are too much money for me. Something doesnt wash here. The yards say they arent too crazy about them, but they still go on bidding them up to the point I can't make any money parting them out. let me know if you see one for sale. I am a buyer.
