there was an update to the 98 long shoes. Fan was sped up and strip welded along front of shoe. Also front louvers were lowered best I can remember. However if your machine ran good for that many acres I would check for mechanical problems first. The panel under the trap door has not come looseIJ This allows chaf to be drawn into fan and all kind of cleaning probs arise. More later

When air is colder it is more dense! that's why the engine performs better after dark!!

Your '98 should already have any updates that have came around. The latest machines already have the holes punched to relocate splitter to give more air to shoe. We have never had any shoe problems when they went with the long shoe so we've never moved splitter. I have also saw the leaf screen under fan and hydro area plug which choked up the fan as the day went on. Clean out hydro area and shut off seperator from time to time. There is a castle shaped air deflector just ahead and below chaffer that can be removed. I had heard of some taking it out when long shoes first came out because they were getting short pieces of wheat straw in the sample.

have found under the right condions dirt will build up the fins in the fan in only one section very hard to see this happening walking behind the machine
