Combines R 72 Alternator

Unhook each battery and do a load test on each individual battery. I've had a bad battery in the group that affects the performance of the others. Maybe one battery is shorting out internally. If batteries are OK may sure battery connection on alternator is good with good wire with no breaks. Good luck.

You might want to check the relay in the cab, I have an F3 that the guage was jumping around and I thought that it was the alternator and it was the relay, just something else to think about John

Sometimes if the volt meter gets low enough the voltage light will come on also. I have not checked the batteries yet. They were new last year, but I will check them with a load tester tomorrow. Thanks.

Maybe you could turn on max load on electrical system and then feel the output wire eyelit on the alternator, starter, circuit breakers under radiator and master solinoid in cab. If you feel warmth you may have located an eyelit that is not soldered well enough onto wire. If you had a good hand held voltmeter hooked onto solinoid in cab you could carry it along while wiggleing some of them connections. I wouldn't rule out alternator but so you need to watch voltage at that point when it bothers in cab. Wiggle the battery cables at batterys and starter while watching voltage. Make sure cab is grounded. Fell alternator pulley after running a short period of time to be sure it is not getting hot from a sliping belt. Good luck

Suggest that you remove and service alternator before each season. Heat is the biggest enemy of alternators and the dust drawn thru the radiator coats the alternator internals, preventing proper cooling. The dust also penetrates into the bearings. We now replace the bearings every year and have almost no alternator problems. Previously we had regular alternator and bearing problems.
