Combines R40 or l 3

The l3 by specs is twice the size of the F2 and an N_R5_50_52 is 50% larger than the l3. So you will have a good jump in size even with an R40. You will find the rotary much easier to maintain and easier on the grain for a higher quality sample. Personally I would look into a 5_50_52 as they are more common than the 40. The 5_50_52 also will handle the larger heads and higher yields better. Similar case when IH made the 1420, few sold and a limited machine. I run a 6 series and am very pleased with the performance of the machine.

Brother had a F-2 and then traded it for a R40 with 800 hours on it. It has the Duetz air cooled engine. We run it with a 16 foot flex head and 4 row corn head. We put the feeder shock kit on it and we have a hard time keeping it full and for a rotor it is best to run them full if possible. We had a few maintenance items but overall it has been a blessing as we both work full time off the farm and with the R40 we can get done in half the time. Hard part is keeping it away from the combine. If we wanted I guess we could have the injector pump recalibrated to get up to the hp of the R50 but we like it the way it is. I guess we should replace the accellerator rolls according to the dealer mechanic. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on the easiest way to replace them.

I agree with John go with the rotary's you won't be sorry you did. I would also imagine the resale value would be higher on a R50 also, that's what I'm hoping as I jumped from a F2 to a R50.
