I'm not sure about the l3's, but our l2 would barely keep up with our Deere 7720 in small grains, and would NEVER keep up to it in corn or beans. Both machines were meticulously maintained and reasonably reliable! As far as Deere's "upfront engine and offset cab", the 7720 was a very well-balanced machine. If you look carefully, you will see that the engine sits above and between the drive tires (not far to the right) and the grain tank sits slightly back, placing weight (almost) equally between the front and rear tires as the tank fills. The Gleaner was by far a quieter machine to run, and a pleasure to service and maintain compared to the Deere, but as far as capacity, the Deere's 55" cylinder far outweighed the Gleaners 48" body!

Actually, an 8820 would be closer to the capacity of an N5 or N6. We traded from an l2 to an N6, and from the 7720 to an 8820, and (when the N6 was working optimumly) the N6 seemed to keep up to the 8820 in small grains and even excel the Deere in corn, especially high moisture corn. I don't mean to start any colour wars here; - I still run one of each colour, and probably will for some time to come!
