Conditions can make a huge difference. We don't have near as much trouble with the V8's as we do with I6's. But when it is a smaller machine with I6 it is likely running with another I6 so they are eating each others dust. We also have way more I6's doing edible beans which is very abrasively dirty. Volcanic dust areas of western US have ducted air intake areas to pull air from up high which limits intake of dust. Them same areas have ducted water cooled machines also to help limit amount of chaff that can get near radiator. You see there are so many conditions for I have seen wore out fan in 300 or less hours of abrasive dust combine conditons and have seen them go 10,000 plus hours in tractors. The guys that have ducted air intake to pull cleaner air have experienced up to five times the life for blade. We only have a few machines that run in the conditions that would make it worth the trouble to reroute air intake.
