Hello lam, Take a trip down memory lane to October 26, 2003 at 22:09:55. Or, I can save you some time.... Wanted: R40 Chopper Posted by Oedie86 on October 26, 2003 at 22:09:55: We are looking for a chopper for our 91 R40. It has become evident that we will need one. You can email me if you have one to sell. Not sure what they are worth, but I figure I have a good chance of finding one cheaper than list $1500. Thanks for any help. ------AND THE RESPONSE----- Re: Wanted: R40 Chopper Posted by 4farms on October 28, 2003 at 05:42:10: In Reply to: Wanted: R40 Chopper posted by Oedie86 on October 26, 2003 at 22:09:55: You might be better off buying new as used choppers are very hard to find. I recently had to aquire an entire burnt R-52 just to get the chopper for my R-50. I ended up robbing quite a few parts from this machine so it wasn't too bad. A chopper from a 42 or 52 will fit right in your machine but you'll have to buy some different drive pulleys because the are different than the 40's and 50's. Hope this helps. We installed a chopper in our '91 R-40 over Christmas break, so the experience is fresh in our mind. We broke down and bought the entire kit_assembly. We'll find out how it does. Wheat is quickly approaching and soybeans will be the real test. Good luck, Ryan.

you can order the whole kit from a gleaner dealer. Use part n 71363027. This is a wholegoods number. list price is $1250.

I checked with 2 dealers and one said it was not being offered as a package anymore and it would have to be put together out of parts. The other one said that the number had been superceded but couldn't find another number and said he would have to do some digging as there were different kits for the 50's and 60's than the 52's and then it depended on which motor the combine had. If a person had to put it together out of parts I imagine it would really be expensive!

The number that I gave you will work on a 1995 R52. It was a wholegoods kit, but I just recently learned that it has been moved to parts. You can still use the same kitn to order it, and it will be roughly the same price. The kits are not available at this moment, but should be in the next few weeks. If your dealer still can't find the kit in parts, tell him to call Gleaner Sales Engineering.

The chopper from a 93'-98' R62 is the same chopper used in R52. The driven sheave on the impeller is the same used on the chopper and the drive belt on your 98" R52 should be the same belt to use on chopper. You may need to add the slow speed idler and support off the R62.Should be a pretty straight forward switch.
