Check clearance on the clutch armature, or damage

That sounds like what my N6 use to do. Has the machine ever come across a very large slug or slug stoppedIJ I found that mine had and the main clutch shaft was bent. It liked to jump the belt over 1 sheave notch but wouldn't tear the belt up very fast. But it rattled, clanged and vibrated until I replaced the shaft.

You might want to look at the spined disc that the PTO shaft goes into on the motor and make sure that you don't have a missing or broken spring. On the seperator clutch check the pins to see if they are worn and the grommets on your clutch discs to see if they are egg shaped if either one is worn your clutch pack will rattle. My N6 seperator clutch used to rattle until I replaced it last fall (the grommets on the outer clutch disc finally wore through). Pete Hinrichsen

There is a flex plate connecting crankshaft and PTO shaft on l_M machines that wears out quite frequently. The experts said the R series has an improved coupler that lasts longer. That coupler is about the only thing on the R60 that I havent looked at since I bought it, and I have wondered if I should take it apart to make sure everything is in order. let us know what you find wrong with yours. Yes the first machines with the V8 had that clattering PTO drive. Some were better than others. I've never failed one of those rubber couplings yet and they still use them. Them couplings are very forgiving on alignment unlike the old spring flex plates. I don't believe there is a provision for aligning them shafts on the 60 and 70's. The alignment must of got better on the newer machines with the Deutz for I rarely here a raddle from them. Your unloader clutch should be quite. Check for dirt buildup on the pulleys or flat spot in the belts causing belt tentioner to hop. Good luck.
