Combines R60 P1 Rotor vs

I think I would leave P1 in place but install the channel iron helicals. I would remove old sweep and leave it out. You can build a false wall upward from left concave arm to prevent straw from hanging and plugging in that area. Install cage covers to both sides of left concave arm and the far right one next to right concave arm. P1 system has shorter concave (about half the crossbars as P3). P1 has 1" square holes in cage material (P3 has 1"X1.25"). P1 has milder rasp bars than P3. P3 would need bars extended to discharge unless it has allready been done. P1 system works well as long as you install some helicals that will flow the straw. I'm sure you could do a P1 change over to P3 but I do not know what all you will run into. I think I would keep the P1 unless cage is shot and then I would contemplate the switch to P3. Good luck and have fun.

NDDan, Thanks very much for the info. Yes, the P1 rub bars are completely shot, and the cage is only in fair condition. This was another reason we were considering the swap -- to take advantage of the nearly new rub bars and cage from the '90 machine. It's not critical that we make the swap though -- just a thought. I've read all the discussions about completely removing the sweep, but strangely haven't seen anyone attempt to run without it in our area (Northwest STEEP hills). I thought it might be a worthwhile alternative to swap in the new-style sweep since we already own it. We're planning to install the helicals anyway, so maybe we'll just try w_o the sweep this year. Regarding the helicals, the '90 machine has them installed and in good condition. I assume they'll swap OK into the P1 cage. Also, I suppose we should install spacers under the helicals, as suggested in the Hyper Mods section. I'll look at the cage and hopefully see what you're describing regarding the false wall. Sounds like some good tips. I don't see any reference to this in the Hyper Mods section -- do yo know of any pictures or linksIJ Thanks again!

Things you can consider. Door just behind concave is welded in and can be replaced. Other doors on thresher side are bolted in. Bolted in doors can be fliped and the 1st and 3rd doors swaped of positions. Channel bars can be still be mounted easily and you'll have much nicer cage material where cage was wore the worse. Channel helicals will reduce rate of further cage wear and tie everything together better. Seperator section would need removed and replaced or rebuilt although channel iron helicals will change major wear area and tie that side of cage together better also. We have never removed the for aft cage sweep for they have given little to no trouble. Never attempted to install one on earlier machines. I have never attempted installing the helicals from P3 into P1. I'm sure they are basically same pitch as Gleaners channel iron kit for P1 but holes locations could provide a challenge. I had shimmed channel iron helicals but only the steep pitch (68") in the P3s. I had shimmed by 1_8" and 1_4" in an effort to handle edible bean straw when tough going. This didn't make a noticable difference and maybe even caused more rumble the higher the shims thus the development of rotor sweeps (the answer to our prayers). I don't think it is a bad idea at all to shim the steep pitch helicals on thresher side but we don't go threw the bother anymore. False wall is nothing more than a piece of tin fastened to cage at seam between thresher and seperator. It starts just above left concave arm and follows around cage to top peak. It should extend something around 6" or more above the peak. Get me email address and I buzz you a picture.
