I didnt want to take any chances with a leaking diaphragm so I replaced it when the machine was 10 years old. And yes it is the thing on the top front, on the right bank. I would tell you how to do it if I could remember what I did, but you shouldnt have any trouble. I looked at putting another hose barb in the air cleaner and decided it was more work than any possible benefits to be gained. I do disassemble the section with the swirley things and blow them out thoroughly every year or two. Keeping a good seal between the top of the air cleaner and the engine hood is also very important. I close the hood and check the fit with a flashlight to make sure there are no big gaps. Newer machines have a latch to keep the engine hood from bouncing around but I havent gotten around to installing one. Anybody have any suggestionsIJ Tom in MN

Oil consumption: I may be wrong but I believe that our manuals (R60-R72)state the expected oil consumption as a ratio to fuel useage. I can not remember the numbers but recall that I was surprised at how high it is with the Duetz engines. In other words you may be well within expected tolerances. Air cleaner: we used a hole saw to cut hole then riveted the "canister" (thingy that looks like a can with two places to hook hoses to) to the precleaner and then sealed the canister to the precleaner with silicone. About air cleaners, I would not operate without putting silicone bead on joint between precleaner and air cleaner body. Get a 100% airtight seal. No matter how well it is tightened, fine particles can get through. You would be surprised how much longer you can go without needing to clean air cleaner filters!!

We have used a hole saw and we have drilled a bunch of holes then finished off with side cutter and die grinder. We do this very carefully to prevent going into plastic. We locate hole close to original hole. We very carefully tack weld a barb on in a couple spots then cool down and repeat until welded all the way around. The last one we did we could see alot of the blockage after cutting the extra hole. We had to dunk and soak and force high pressure washer back and forth for quite sometime before blockage was cleared. Be sure to push swirly things back into position if you used enough pressure to move them. Good luck.
