In normal conditions, slower cyl speed will break up cobs more. We try to set the concave based on the average size of the cob when compressed. Then run the cyl up to crackage to find the upper limit, then down to power increase is noticed or cob break up occurs then find a medium inbetween - usually from 275 to 350. We also take the front of the grate 2 marks down toward max in corn. As to cob, we have found that we can lower the top screen, chaffer, to the point of shoe loss, then raise it back to just take the crop, then set the sieve, lower screen, to the same or wider - not lower- setting. lowering the sieve to clean cobs will block air to the chaffer . We have made some really clean samples using this deviation from factory suggested settings. Might give it a try.
