I have never had a Deutz engine but have not heard alot of bad things other than you need to keep the cooling area clean and parts are not as readily available as well as cost for them is higher. The engine compartment is also more crowded with the Duetz. On the plus side you can get the fuel pump set up to that of an R-72 fairly easily and they do have good power. The Cummins engines have been good for me. The early 62's were 240 hp I believe they changed to 260 sometime in 1994, the extra hp is worth it. In 1996 they added 12" to the shoe length, depending on crops grown it may be a plus. Comparing to the R-70 hawk, our neighbor had one and we had a 94 R-62 and the R-62 was very close to the R-70 in our conditions, probably 95% or better in capacity. As far as simplicity of machine and operator comfort the 2 series is much nicer. Just my opinion anyway.
