We had a similar issue a couple of years ago, turned out that an o-ring in the lift pump on back of engine was leaking and we must have been sucking air. Our machine would run fine and then all of a suddden loose power and begin to sputter and stall, we changed filters and it worked for a couple of hours and did it again. Some times every hour and then would clear up for a day or two and do it again, no outer signs of leaking on pump and everytime we emptied or changed filters it would clear up so we never actually found the problem, traded machines and told dealer who found the problem.

Take fuel line loose between tank and primary filter and see if you are getting enough fuel if not blow into line coming from tank or take valve off bottom of tank and blow the valve out and make sure the fuel is free flowing out of tank, it could be plugged. I had that problem with my N-5 cutting wheat today.

we have run into what I hope is not a trend. Seems the turbos on the QSC Cummins are not as reliable as in the past. If the turbo brgs get loose and let the impeller touch the housing it will only develope about 9 n's of boost. This derates the computer that sets the fuel flow. I was bull headed and did not believe it, but one of customers had a tractor problem with the 505 cummins qcs in a CIH and the mechanic said they were seeing it more and more. Switched the turbo and it was back at super hp. If one revs it up and it doesn't sound like a belt slipping then it might be a turbo....

Kevin, How is the wheat turning out,after the freeze and everythingIJ I cut mine today,tested 12 made ,not really sure but somewhere between 55 and 60. I still have some on the truck. The test weight was 58 and higher. The elevator was paying 5.21 today. I think that is the most I have ever got for wheat. Hope yours is better then mine. Have you ever got any rain down thereIJ IG

I'm from N.C. frost hurt some the drought is much worse. I'm ready for this year to be over. If I survive next year has got to be better. The wheat yeild goes from 5 bu_acr to 60 bu_acr in 100 yds . operator nightmare!!! But I'm still running a gleaner. life is good

Hey IG, I cut 60 acres of mine that the freeze hurt the worst and it went 11 bushels per acre and 20 percent moisture from the green tillers and 55 testweight could have been around 90 if not for the freeze. Contracted at $5.05 but I will problable owe the elavator for takeing it. I am cutting my neabors now and it is running around 25 bushels and looked like it could have been 70 before the freeze also. I will finish my neabors tomorrow and start back in mine that was planted two weeks later and it looks very good maybe 65+ on some. We got 4_10th inch of rain friday the only rain I have had on my corn other than 2_10th the week I planted. All the corn here looks real bad. I have not planted a bean yet either and unlikly that I will now. Ground is hard as rock. Hay is short supply and pastures are burn up. Don't look like I will need a corn head for my R52 now. Hope you are having better luck. I havn't heard from you in awhile thought you had maybe joined that harvesting crew.

Sorry to hear about your crops and the lack of rain. Here in South Central NE things look good for now. I will bet your lack of crop and moisture won't hit the papers and news like the four dollar corn and huge subsidies that we are always getting.Ha!

Another thing to watch out for on the 505 Cummins is if the diaphragm that operates the wastegate on the turbo gets a hole in it the engine will lose power as soon as you try to push the combine at all..we had this problem a couple of years ago and NDDAN helped me diagnose it. It's not the fact that the wastegate isn't working but the vacuum line that works the diaphragm is conected to the injection pump and this causes the aneroid in the injection pump not to work properly. Dan can probably explain it better but we fought that problem for a few weeks before we figured out what it was.
