Combines R62 Heating Problems

It could be a problem with the inside of the radiator being dirty. not sure how you are cleaning the exterior.........it will take high pressure water..........and lots of it going both directions. The belt should not slip in both directions........you should turn the engine with the fan. often times the serpentine belt and pulleys are misleading in their condition. VSTK

Chck VSTK's ideas first but I would also check that your engine is not running to lean at max power! something might not be right with fuel pump! I recond I have heared something about the 98 engines some time ago Dan and the other boy's might know something more about what Im talking about Rolf

There is a kit to install a better fan. This was a kit but now is avail only in parts. I think all you might need is the fan and hub. Check with your dealer on this FE kit.

Brought this info home with me tonight. If his '98 machine is prior to S_N 68296 the kit number would be 71378899. If not available the blade number is 71368954 which would also require blade spacer 71377651 and bolts 70950044. Measure the currant blade to see it isn't all ready the newer one. New blade has eight 6" blades. A new blade for driving rotary screen was also in kit and its P_N is 71378893. New rotary screen blade may reduce restriction of incoming air. Maybe best if he could report back with S_N of machine, width and number of blades. Should make sure that coolant isn't to strong and coolant filter changed regularly.

More info to add to below statements. If you have newer machine S_N 68296 and up you have a larger radiator. Wider fan blade was added to that setup for '99 and lower restriction rotary screen blade at S_N 68458. If you have taller radiator a 71387729 orfice was to be installed by dealer. It is orfice on engine that small line to top of radiator comes from. New orfice has .125 hole and don't know what old orfice had. If you need larger blade for taller radiator you will only need bolts and they call for a P_N 70951134. One thing you can do no matter what setup you have and that is block off top and bottom couple inches of hydralic oil cooler. You could sample temp of oil tank before and after in your condition if you were worried about running hotter. One thing to remember if you do opt for bigger blade is you will run more suction in rotary screen basket. This can cause more chaff to sneak by the saw tooth blades. If that is a problem it can be addressed also. If you have our temperatures heading your way you won't have to worry about heating engine just heating the cab. likely be snowing cats and dogs a little later. Have a good one.

I must have newer fan it has eight blades. My serial is 69000 something. At the risk of sounding like a bad farmer I have never changed coolant filter and am not sure if coolant might to strong. I did get the orfice from the dealer the combine was bought from but have not put it on because the heat has not bothered very often. Sounds like I need to do better maintanance. I don't think the coolant is to strong but why does that effect cooling ability. You would not be thinking of opening a dealership closer to me would you!

This paticular machine was caught up in a bad dealer financial mess and sat around on lot for along time so it is possible the orfice never got changed so will try it and see. If that does not do it may have to look in to wider fan blades if I dont already have them. Do you know the width of the bigger blades. Have you ever thought about charging for your advice. Course then you would be a three time millionare!

That's a '99 machine then!!! It should have larger radiator, wider radiator fan blade (6"),and lower restriction rotary screen blade. It would still maybe need orfice if prior to 69057. Was just thinking about a dealership closer to you when I look out and see all the snow. I might have to give it a little more though. Have a good day.
