Save time and make a header trailer. We built one for a cost of $75 for iron and used a 6 ton running gear. It takes less than 5 min. to drop and lock down the header. It is probally faster than going slow in a tight gate with 2 inches to spare, and no problems going through towns or narrow roads. With 2 people we have dropped a head in less than 2 min. Picking it up can be done as fast if you drive up to it right, and you can get in the shed at night.

We run a 20' head on our machine and we had to design a header wagon to transport it on. It is quick and easy and it lets you go almost anywhere. We have a 20' doorway on our building and leaving the head outside just doesn't make sense. Of course if the field is too small then you have no choice, but to go with a smaller head.

We currently run 2 2000 R-62's. We have found that it is best to run either on the corn side or run with the modified blocks in corn. Most other crops just keep it on grain. (modified blocks - where you cut down the grain side and weld it to the bottom.. Makes it like corn but with float. I also recomend getting Mancester Feed chains if the factory ones need replaced. They offer a feed chain that flips the crop..(on the back side of the slat there is an extra piece that flips the crop when going around gears.) We run the half smooth half agressive slats. (plus price is about half)

I installed the shocks on the feeder house last year, was told to run in the grain position for all crops. Read here on the Talk Show to run feeder house in the fast speed, that was 3 yrs ago, have not had any problems(knockon wood) so far. Good luck, and becareful out there! DCW SCMI.

Couple of water pumps failed over time. No worse than any other engine I've been around. Get a new skid plate that has the added ribbing coming over toward wobble box from tie rod anchor point. Best install heavy A frame that tie rod ties to at the same time. Crack came from sickle pulling hard. This causes flexing in this area. Make sure sections and cutting surface of guards are in good condition. Check wear plates and adjust hold downs if running Gleaner sickle. Good luck

Forgot to add my $.02 on pushing dirt. May need to take some weight off the ground with helper springs. Cutter bar can get very heavy when it fills in with dirt. Wobble box counter balance spring can be adjusted to take up some more weight. Both left and right side has arm to hold tilt of cutterbar stabil. May want to loosen one side or the other to tilt cutterbar a bit to see it it helps. Shouldn't need to force anything. Hope you get her tuned in. Good luck
