Combines R7 N7 Rotor

I wouldnt be afraid of an N7 engine. It has adequate power and stamina to do just about anything you want to do to it, Cage sweeps arent needed in many crops and are easily removable. That was the first suggestion the neighbors gave me. There may be some crops where a cage sweep is a good idea but the crops I grow, corn and beans, go through nicely without it. Of course, an R72 is a better combine, but you have to decide what your pocketbook feels comfortable with. Keep us posted on what you decide.

I owned an 84' N-6 and a 89' R60... the cage in the N-6 wore out before 2,000 hours... the R60 would last 4,000 hours.. I think chromed. I took cage sweep arms out of both machines when they gave trouble and didn't notice any problems in wheat and milo. N-6 did poorly in spreading straw R60 had dual spreaders and did very well. R60 was easier to work on. 1 thing good about R7 several old N-6's being junked and most parts will interchange. I only got $7500 on trade for my 84' N-6 with 1700 hrs 2 years ago. Hope it works out good for you give us an update if you get it. Steve

Sweep would have nothing to do with combine being good or bad. Stacking, shimming, or channel helicals can be read about all over hear and that sure reduces need for cage sweep in as many crops as I can think of. Cage sweeps were never in R40, R50, R42, R52,R55, R62, R72, R65, R75. Aprox. last two years of R60 and R70 had a much improved cage sweep that moved fore and aft as opposed to left and right. Improvements were made every year. Of course with the introduction of a fairly major change (P3 in R60 R70) there were some bugs to get out. N7 and R7s had perfectly rock solid engines but of course they are in a combine. How many times did the operator overheat and not tell anyone ect. ect. R7s are excellent machines and will eat a ton of straw if you tune up the helicals ect. If she has a discharge beater in place of chopper be sure to put good knotched blades outward unless you have problem wraping up the beater. Good luck
