I would try it first without the filler bars on the concave - try to get as much separation at the concave as possible. I've always thought the filler bars were for hard-to-thresh crops. Good luck - let us know how she performs! Tom langan

We will probably do some testing with less filler strips(especially if beans get down extremely dry),but when we originally put them in, we saw seed quality much improved(assume trash cushions the seed as threshed),and I expect we run very little returns this way. Also, when starting out too early in harvest, it does a perfect job with over 20% beans(if you bin air dry beans). I am assuming that without conventional Gleaner sep grate, we must be sure that all threshing has to be done at concave. Time will tell.

RamRod, Do you have return to cylinder optionIJ We bought a used one and put in on ours last summer. In my opinion Gleaner as done themselves a great diservice by not making that standard equipment! I was worried it would add more splits for seed beans...so far I have to say the opposite. So nice not chasing the same pods around and around in the return all day. Brian

Brian, Absolutely do have return to cylinder. I had to convince my dealer when we first used Gleaners (very early 90's) that we needed it, and he wouldn't think of ordering a machine now without it. The order book noted the option as for hard thresh wheat, and that was a big mistake! I had a big bin of seed beans give trouble(damp pods),and that should never happen if return is on machine. If it is not on a machine, you don't have a whole combine.
