Combines R72 main shaft

Hi Gerald, No, I've never operated mobile from the combine. Not surprising though, as I seldom get to run the 72. My son has pretty well laid claim to the machine, although a couple years ago, he was in some particularly nice wheat and his conscience must have gotten the better of him and he asked me if I'd like to run the combine for a while. He seemed to be enjoying himself so I let him continue. I've run 15 through 75 in the tractor in the past though. Mobile antenna mounted on the chisel sure makes for a good ground-plane. The Carter mill in the pics has an indented drum on the bottom, but only one. Where abouts in VE5 land are you locatedIJ I'm about 65 miles south of Coronach SK. Ed in Montana

My opinion is you would be better off putting your money elsewhere. Allthough tearing down mainshaft to replace bearings and check things over following the tips you have been reading about would be a fine idea. Just be sure it is done right. loctite main hanger bearings to shaft and coat splines with anti-seeze as Gleaner pointed out in special bullitin back in mid '90s. Replace varible pins and bushings if you don't keep in there original wore in position. Purchase socket for the pins or borrow dealers to prevent under torqueing. Under torqueing the smaller pins used on most '94 and prior machines will result in one pin at a time breaking off and doing the dissappearing act. No big deals hear just little things we learn along the way just as you do growing your crops. Good luck

Has anyone tried a spinner type precleaner on these machines. I've often wondered if a Turbo 2 would fit in place of the OEM precleaner. Would certainly do away with chance of sucking exhaust into precleaner.
