Combines R72 R62 Spreader throw distance tailings and stone trap

From my experience, I can set spreader to spread soybean straw to nicely spread behind a 30' header. I can almost throw it into the uncut crop. You didn't say what crops you do, but for soybeans, especially if you want to run in tough conditions, absolutely have the return to cylinder option!! The stone door works very well if you set it's sensitivity so rocks will open it. let's be realistic here, and admit that rocks are best to be kept out of any machine as much as possible. We have considerable rocks, but I have not had to close rock door more than once or twice per year. Hope this may help.

Gleaner r62_72 always do a great job of spreading soybean residue because you have many ajustments on throw width. It actually works best with the larger headers. Stone protection I feel is worth getting out and having to close the door. Gleanor offers a trap like other colors but the stone door works and works great.

G'day greenthumb, Factory spreader works fine with 30' header in wheat and barley, but hydro drive is streets ahead in heavy crop. We have a stone trap in our 2002 R-62 and after having the door in our previous 2 machines, won't go back. Amazing how many small rocks as well as the big expensive ones you can keep out!! Unfortunately there is a lot of factory resistance to fitting these for the oz market but this caan be overcome by getting a quote from another color.(Aint competition marvellous!!)

In my opinion, closing the rock door is much less of a hasel than spending $ and days in the shop after you have "found" a rock.

Of course rock injestion prevention should be number one priority. We can get sump installed from factory and I for one is against that. It is very easy to install for someone in the field and is very inexpensive. The sump is installed in some machines and operators either don't know about it or don't bother keep it dumped from time to time. When they don't dump it there is less and less rock portection as sump packs hard. Also the sump will decoy a poor feeding or rotor flow problem that should be corrected. I would prefer the rock door hump from factory for best feeding and good rock portection. Third helical over feeder opening will help a bunch with door opening from heavy crop flow. Next for the guys sure to pick rocks I would prefer the sump with fingers protruding over sump (like I've seen on CIH) and have a machine shop making for Gleaners. We need the heavy wires over sump to help keep material flowing in some conditions. When the material does not flow it stresses rear feed causing problems and screws up flow threw rotor. like you, many others are thrilled with what they see getting dumped out of sump but even more thrilled when feed over sump is compromised very little. Machines with sump still have the standard rock door and can have hump fastened to it. With that setup you could close up door in normal manner if there is only slight chance of picking rock and then if sure to pick rock you could install brackets and seals to lock door half open to create sump. Trouble with that you wouldn't be able to have wires over sump the way we do it. I know before we put wires over sump the guys wanted to close door in normal manner when out of rocks but with the wires they are just dumping every day weather in rocks or not. I mean hopefully they are. There should be a decal on side seal plate for sump and read that it should be dumped at least daily. You see you don't get away from opening and closing door even with sump but at least you can choose when to do it. I guess it would depend on your conditions and who you have running machines or taking care of machines on what would be best setup for your operation.

Sorry Dan, I should have added it is critical to clean the sump out daily. Dirty job but I don't lose harvesting time either.
