The quality of the dealer is a lot more important than the distance, in my opinion. What good is a dealer right in your back yard who maintains a lousy stock of parts or keeps bankers hoursIJ The new Gleaner's just don't deserve the reputation that was handed to them by the early Ns nearly a quarter century ago. The current crop of Gleaners are simple and about as well built as anything out there = RElIABlE. Ed in Montana

Yes, the R72 IS the better machine. Without a dealer next door, as long as you are comfortable with doing some of your own minor year-to-year maintenance and work, the 72 is a joy to work on compared to the STS. The biggest problem will likely be putting up with jealous neighbors who will have 'combine envy' and will heckle you for 'breaking from the pack'. The best way I've found to stop them is to invite them over to see the job you'll be doing with the 72 and for them to try to match it with their green and red ones. That usually shuts them up pretty quick!

My R62 falls short in capacity to my neighbors Deere 9650STS, at least in wheat and barley. I have a feeling that soys and corn will be a different story. The biggest feature a Gleaner has over the STS is simplicity. Either machine puts a clean sample in the tank!
