I would bet you are right about signal. If ground speed in display never fails then you need to look at the ground speed out wire. That is the wire that leaves the display module and feeds the auto reel speed, acre estimater, and pacer modules. There would be a plug near the display module and a couple locations in side counsel. You need a service manual so you can trace the wire color and pin locations of the plugs. If you don't find a pin sliping out of place than I would switch display module and give it a try.
