Sweet sound isn't. My 72's sound just as nice. Gotta love the loud bark. R72

Yeah I must say that I love the loud bark too. You can't beat sitting out on a cool night listening to a gleaner roar up and down the field. Nick

I noticed the same thing several years ago at Husker Harvest Days. I don't know if Gleaner does this for a good reason or if they don't want to invest as much in a muffler system. Besides being louder, it was slower than most of the competition probably because it wasn't hyperized. Have a safe harvest

Only a couple guys around hear don't like the bark. One is a '96 R72 and other is a '04 R75. The guy with 72 installed under hood muffler and neat as a pin. 75 is getting one when he's done with small grains. Both machines are hyperized and smooth as silk.

Dan Getting back to the original question, do you know why Gleaners are louder than a lot of the competitionIJ

The 72 and 75 do not have a muffler. When the 62 went to an electronic engine they got a muffler around 2001.

Use to work at an AGCO dealer that was on the edge of town. Mechanic shoved the throttle all the way on an R72, people in the neighbouring building were looking out the window and some even came out. Gotta love the sound they make. Wonder if the future Sisu engines will sound the same. If you don't look at the superior design, the exhaust is the best part. Take care, Nathan

I don't know if they are noisier than all the competion. A lot of guys would make me gut out the mufflers if I installed one. The bark is mainly noticeable when directly behind them. That is because the exhaust turnout is aimed rearward. Sounds similiar to the Steigers that used to run around with Cummins and straight pipe. V8 Deutz with turbos and straight pipes have nice bark also. I'm sure it all boils down to the extra cost of muffler and not enough demand to go ahead and put them on.

Neighbour has 3 R72's and other have 5. When they are all going at night sounds pretty good.
