On the Massey portion of this site check the post by Russ on June 17 on the new prototype Masseys. He talks a little about the cab.

I just read Russ's post. Said he doesn't like the Hydro handle at all. Sounds like they may go to the F16 style control stick, against most people's wishes that have spoken up here in the past. Hydro handle with about 25 buttons on it that are too easy to confuse and press the wrong one. You think you're lowering the head, look back and see corn puking out of the unloading auger! I would like to make one request of the AGCO engineers if they are indeed putting these things in the new Gleaner series - please add one of those suicide kill switches that strap onto your wrist - sorta like what they use on those super powerful racing snowmobiles that kill the engine if you fall off. That way, when panic sets in after pressing several wrong buttons, we can just hurl ourselves out the cab door to stop all machine functions! Also, my folks used to own an Olds Delta 88 that would warn you in a very pleasant woman's voice that you're a forgetful idiot and you had left your headlights on, left your key in the ignition, etc. Please add this feature to the new series to replace that generic Tattletale beeper. That way when my combine starts disintegrating, setting off the Tattletale, I can think to myself: "My combine is falling apart. Yet, I feel good about it!" Thank you for listening! Tom langan

I would also like to hear something else besides that annoying beeper. The Deer's have a very easy on the ear low pitched buzzer. The tatletale beeper is about the same pitch as my wife when she gets made at me!

I too would hate to see the joystick with buttons deal. First time I saw this on a combine was on the Massey_Claas collaboration conventional back in the early 90's and I thought it was rediculous then. I see now CaseIH has a similar thing. Hopefully enough of us will complain about it they'll drop it from the Gleaner anyway. Makes me nervous to think they are incorporating MF stuff into the Gleaner instead of the other way around.

dear john you have that backwards there bud they are putting too much gleaner on the MF combine way too much! The problems that we had with our combine was from the gleaner stuff put on the combine and from the cummins motor a first for us to have problems with a cummins motor. We kept having problems with the feeder house chain kept jumping off and getting cocked we had that happen 6 times in 1800 acres trust me gleaner does not have a good name here on our farm never had it once in 7 years with our old 8570 with the mf feeder house and our 8780 was in only it snd year of running so something is very wrong, the gleaner transmission well it just needs to be overhauled with the mf parts in it. we used to be able to harvest in 3rd gear we had to go down to 2nd because if we got off in a big ditch the combine would not come back out of it until we put it in 2nd gear. now when we got a 4wd unit on it because of the muddy harvest we went back to 3rd since it had more power to pull it with the back wheels. the gleaner hydrostat drove me nuts listening to that whinning it makes going down the road never had it with the mf but let me tell you u are not very happy when u go from quietness to a scream going down the road. On the mf also u could start out on a hill in 3rd gear the gleaner we tried that no it just sit there and whined. The air in the cab is pitiful you have to leave it on high just to cool the cab off and it sits there about all day if its real hot and we have an agco tractor the same way so i say they put the agco air system in them combines our old combine would cool you down very quick this thing takes forever and it has plenty of freon in it and it is right where it should be on temp wise. the cummins motor just never did have power for some reason we still don't know why, but as of last friday we said bye bye to it we traded it in on a 8780XP so i hope they greatly improved the gleaner stuff on it. but as u i hope they (being agco) makes both people happy in combines let them be seperate not put anything on it from other brands. but i do like the gleaner bean head i admit that except i had having that dang chain on the end of head to drive the reel that was the dumbest thing i saw it wasn't even needed just one more thing to go wrong the way i see it. but yes i am curious to know what will come of the new combine i guess we will find out pretty quick i think i saw the new gleaner is comming out like next month or so. allen happy harvesting and pray for rain getting dry here again next 7 days in 90's and no rain
