Combines radiator leak

Dear tightwad, The problem with any stop leak substance of powder or liquid variety is they not only plug up the pin holes, but they tend to cause two other problems in the process. One, they plug the leak and settle two the bottom of the radiator and take up space for coolant to flow; thereby deminishing cooling capacity of the radiator. Two, the stop leak plugs the pin hole and then goes to work plugging up the veins of the radiator as well. This second one also diminishes cooling capacity. As you pointed out any of these products will not stay put in the radiator so what you dump in there may make it into your engine cooling system as well. Hot spots on sleeves are caused by poor cooling... Now I won't tell you not to use it as a mechanic I will tell you I have, but only in very rare situations and in very limited quanities. If you do decide to use something like BARS may I recommend you at least spend the money and buy one of the higher quality powder formulations. You will be able to better control the amount used and thus take care of both problems. Carefully read the manufacturers instructions and be carefull about how much you use. I hope this gives you some help in making your decision, Red

I agree with RED WRENCHER. Sometimes those products work too good and plugged a heater core for me one time. I don't like replacing heater cores.
