Combines Rain rain rain

Had a late lunch and then looked at the rain gage. We've now had 2.3 inches in west central NY in a little over 24 hours. Still a lot of beans out.

I know what you are talking about. I am in western NY and have only done few acres of corn and haven't even tried soybeans yet, I was hoping to not rut the field, but I guess so much for that idea.It looks like running the combine won't be fun this year!

How I envy you guys over there with all your rain. A lot of combines won't even be started this year down here in south eastern Australia. This is the third time in the last ten years that we have been droughted out plus a year where we lost nearly all of our crop to a severe frost at flowering. Rain might be annoying, frustrating and even cost some but severe, long term droughts are totally soul destroying.

Well here in nothern livingston County we had about 3" today. I have about 50 acres of corn done and was trying to get the wet fields done first. I think they will now be 365 day corn and wait untill spring unless it freezes hard this winter. I know drought can be a bugger but if you have never lost a crop to rain you don't know what you are missing. I was talking about it with my parents and aunt at dinner tonight and they were remembering 1977. Anyone in NY who was farming then will know what I'm talking about. That is the benchmark for wet years here. Our familly harvested 110 acres of kidney beans by hand that fall. Maybe we arn't so bad off, at least not yet.

I agree with you. A couple of years ago, I read the book "The Road from Coorain" whch mostly took place in New South Wales. It gave a very clear picture of what drought can be. Hope yours won't continue. John
