Combines Rain

Parttimer, I don't know what you all are doing, but I wish we could get a rain. We got about 3_4 out of the whole thing. Our maize is try to head also. It is supposed to be cool this week ,so that corn down there out to pollinate perfectly and make all kinds of bushels...

What county are you inIJ I thought all of North Texas recieved atleast 2". I went down south of Hillsboro around West Saturday and looked at another grain truck, talking about good looking crops - milo fully headed and corn atleast 7' tall. Nice way to spend a wet afternoon and the truck may be the next acquistion.

PT, I farm in Cooke County. It borders the Red River and I-35 runs right through the middle of it. We have missed almost everytime on these rains. I suppose we will get it sooner or later. They are in good shape if the maize is headed and it got that kind of rain on it... I think we are going to make a grain cart our next purchase. We have a Big 12 about 400 bushel. i would like to find a 600 bu or so... what kind of a truck are you looking forIJIJIJ My cousin has one he might sell. It is GMC General I think it has a 22' box and tip tops.It is a tandem axel with a drag axle. We had over 700 bu of wheat on it. Ww

That is about the size we are looking for. I want one that will hold 40k but the main thing is when we go to market with that weight we still can go at a good speed and not killing the truck. We have two C60s '62and69 and put 28k and then crawl and over load the motors. The one I looked at was a '74 Ford and they said it would carry 47k if needed. It has a 5_3 transmission. I am not sure exactly what that is but they said it would carry the load. This one at $7K. Please find out any info on the other, maybe atleast take a look at it before we buy. Thanks and I do not know of a grain cart that size off hand. We bought an old one before harvest but it was only approx 300 bu. but it came in handy when it rained and the field was too wet to carry the trucks. It is not rusted it has been shedded since I have owned it. The augers were reflighted about 8 years ago and we only cut about 300 acres a year so it has not been used a lot. It is a pharris and wilkins cart I bought it in west texas. We repainted it it was sunfaded. I live 30 miles NE of Dallas. my email is rfoster@arcmail.com

Any luck on finding out info on the truckIJ For now we are passing on the other truck. We did some investigating and the transmission is very hard to shift and old - no parts. I have enough equipment with that problem. Still not able to get into the field to cut maybe tomorrow, chance of rain again Sat and Sun - maybe you will get some.

Been getting fairly regular rains here in South central Ks., and mostly welcome. Problem is that a good bit of it is coming down as hail. A couple days ago we had the northern 1_2 of our county and the southern 1_2 of the adjacent county wiped out (about a 25 mile X 30 mile strip). Corn and milo beaten to shreds, a cutting of alfalfa lost. Several shelter belts look like it's November already. Folks were still scooping hail off their porches the next morning.
