I will get to run a 9690 can't wait. Sounds like the 9790 is quite a machine .

The big Massey is a high capacity machine, if set up properly with the knives on the rotor etc. The machine is a little more forgiving in that it does'nt have to be so fine tuned to get the throughput the Gleaner has. The lack of accelerator rolls is the limiting factor in our country. You mentioned terraces. Put it on a terrace with a 8 row or larger corn head and you will find the limiting factor that the green and other red guys have. Which is also the main Agco research into making a R85.... In selecting a combine one still has to do the $ thing in value and dealer support, customer friendly repairs by the owner etc.

sorry that was supposed to say, Constant Rotor Speed. The massey has a hydraulic motor running the rotor and some how they can set the rotor to run a constant speed. like our Gleaner if the engine pulls down the rotor slows down, in the massey it just keeps on pluggin along adding capacity. If you set it for 700 rpms, is stays real close to where you set it, unless of course you plug it. The hydraulic rotor drive really works alot better than I would have even dreamed. I think Agco picked up a good combine when they bought massey

Put a hydraulic drive on the Gleaners thresher and there would only be a few light horse power drives left on the machine. Sounds like a real good option for Gleaner to consider !

Gotta ask........How can the cylinder bars be the same as the rotor on the Gleaner as it sets in perpendicular to the machine and the Massey rotor lays in there parallel. Not to mention, the rotor assemblies are shipped to the Hesston plant already in one piece ready to be installed in the product as it heads down the assembly line from wherever overseasIJ I toured the plant this last fall is only reason I know all of this. Perhaps you are referring to something else as cylinder bars or I'm not comparing apples to oranges somewheres in the lingo.

The rotors are not made overseas, and the bars do look like whats on the gleaner. I was in Hesston Kan. in sept 02.

The rotors for the masseys are too made overseas. Didn't go out back and see all the equipment laying thereIJ There are the "black boxes" sitting out there and those are the rotary systems for the masseys. They are made overseas and shipped in as a complete assembly according to the dealer that took us on tour. If I'm wrong, he told me wrong but I don't think he would of had any reason to tell a misleading story like that. I went spring of 03 if memory serves me correctly.
