Combines re variable speed

assuming, hummm, everything is ok mechanically, and the spool is traveling the full stroke and the lever is not hitting the front of the slot; the problem is in the releif valve on the variable speed spool. You can get to this by removing the releif valve on top of the spool, put the spool in the vice, it is loctited, and use a good screwdriver and turn the plug in to tighten the spring 1 turn, no more, without a gauge in the line. While you are doing this I have found that a good mother-in-law with a big finger works nicely plugging the hole keeping the oil from seeping out- (a'la' little boy with finger in dike')((even that phrase takes on new meanings nowadays)) The less you like her the more you warm up the oil before starting this adjustment. Now reassemble and try her-uh the combine- out. It should act rather crisply now.
