Kurt, Is this the R72 that was up for sale on SalvageSale a month or so back IJIJ ...if my memory serves me correctly it had suffered a similar fate. If it is I'd be interested in how much you had to pay for it..I was considering bidding on it. I also have a used adjustable rear axle for that combine if you need one. Good luck with the rebuild..

Kurt, Sorry to hear about your tough luck. I saw an R62 at the dealers that had suffered a similar fate. A couple years ago, the guys from Agco mentioned an axle stabilizer kit that takes a lot of the strain off the pivot tube. Kitn 71373037 Didn't seem like a lot of money compared to the alternative, so I put one on my machine. There are a couple of pictures if you follow the link to "Axle Pads" on the Home page of my site.

I think AGCO came out with that axle spacer mod in about 1996-7. The original was a couple of metal block spacers bolted onto the rear axle and bearing against the frame to take the load off the centre pivot tube . We have used metal blocks plus a couple pieces of kitchen nylon cutting board, at a couple of dollars each, as the wear plates. We use the nylon type cutting board material as wear plates against steel in a number of applications. They last for years. Cheers.

Did that thing have RWAIJ There was a bulliton on them to check welds. Sure happy this never has happened to us. Spindle breakage has even become unheard of around hear in the last 15 years. If a guy new the history of the stresses that rear end got over time you would likely know when the failure started. Sorry to hear of the bad luck.

No we have had this combine since it was new. Thanks for the offer of the axil. The fix for the axil was easy as we just welded in a new tube. It was repairing the damage that was so costly. Kurt

No Rear wheel assit. We do a lot of combining of irrigated corn with lots of sprinkler tracks. Some years this can really be a lot of bouncing and the grain bin is full a lot of the time. I figured this hasn't helped much. Kurt
