Combines Rear feed shaft removal

It is quite the job!!! Our shaft was no good because hub had ruined splines to point it couldb't be rebuilt so we cut it in half in the middle and took it out in two peices. If preserving the shaft I would say you'll have to cut the bearings off with torch. Then I don't know if it should come out side of combine or up through bin. Either way, NOT FUN!! If it comes out through the bin do you still have to take off the feeder sprocketsIJ I think I forgot to mention this is an '84 N6. John

I'm trying to remember how that works. Ours is 01 R62. I think you have to drive the sprockets toward the center of the shaft to get it out through the bin. Therein was the "FUN" part I mentioned. Ours were seized to the shaft. Nothing would move them. Not heat. Not a 24 hour soak in pen. oil...Nothing.

jbull, The rear feed conveyor drive shaft will come out the RH side of the combine. Normally we disassemble the drive sheave and hub and then remove locking collar. Remove outer flange on RH bearing then break or cut outer bearing race and move shaft to the left. Break or cut outer bearing race from inner bearing. loosen setscrews in drive sprockets (May have to use heat as setscrews are loctited.). Should be able to get sprockets to move on shaft with some persuassion with air hammer and_or heat. Then remove sprockets from shaft as shaft is removed. loctite new bearings on shaft. Sprocket next to drive sheave is located 4 1_8" from inner wall to center of sprocket and then remaining sprockets are set at 15 3_4" on center. Make sure you line up setscrews on shaft. Can't say for sure on an N6 but on the 2 series it's not gleaners best place to work as stated. We pull the drive sprocket and slip clutch off so just shaft left then cut beaing on inside of machine and heat the sprockets up as they are usually on with locktite and pound them off and shaft comes out the side on a slight angle. Just a word of caution when putting together make sure the teeth are lined up properly, nothing worse than getting it together to realize you are out 1_2 tooth on middle sprocket after you said I pitty the guy who has to take these off the next time.
