You should have the 7" drum already unless your machine was modified. Personally, I would stick with 7" from what I have seen. 8's take up too much space and cause more wear on the floor but that is just my opinion worth what you paid for it. 8's would be alright if you planned on harvesting short crops all of your life. My opinion is the shocks are most important. We played with 7" rear drums before shocks to find no big + or -. I think Gleaner had some protos out with 7" last year but don't think they are factory installed yetIJIJIJ If you are going to replace drum you can go ahead and install 7" for you can shim the stops any way you want for less or more travel. When we first started installing the shocks we cut the blocks to get a little more lift of the 8" but quit doing that when we found little benifit. A guy has to keep in mind that there is such a thing as chain coming to far away from floor in some crop or conditions. The new 7" drum with the w-ring chain guides will get you somewhere between the old 7" and 8" drum. Good luck.
