I work at a CNH dealer in western Iowa, this is not a big problem with this engine so far, front seal and cover has been far more problem, engine oil pump had problem of breaking gear shaft off, if you are planning on keeping combine it has about 100,000 miles on it, would you expect your pickup to last after pulling it hard all day long. CDC has been good engine so far, not perfect however. Water pump is easy to replace as is the oil pump, rear seal is not.

I thought Case IH fixed all of these back in the early 90's when the problem was discovered. Search for the service bulletin at your local CIH dealer. I have also seen two Magnums built in 1988 with failed rear main seal. lost the oil, threw n6 rod bearing, and hit the fuel filters through the block wall. Started a fire and both tractors burnt that way. I would suggest that unless you have a very generous insurance company, you get it fixed right away. My 2 cents!!
