Combines Rear wheel assist problems

I'm not familiar with these units... Does each wheel have its own individual drive unitIJ(hydraulic motor). If so im assuming its electrically activatedIJIJ...Now here's why I ask.lOl... A pea harvest crew was having the exact same problem with their track drives,ie constantly blowing seals. Turns out they had a bad wire on solenoid valve of one track drive. Consequently the drive wasnt being 'activated' all the time( One side was driving the other just free wheeling). The wire would vibrate as the machine moved through the field. What was happening is that when the wire moved just enough to complete the circuit the drive motor would be activated at FUll engine RPM's. This caused a huge surge to that drive motor and the seals would blow.Your problem may or may not be similar, as I said I'm not familar with the RWA you have, but if its electric over hyrdaulic at the hub thats where I would look .

I think ours is different. The drive unit is centered behind the shoe on the axle. The main lines go into it and it divides the oil to each wheel hydro motor in the hubs. It has 4, looks like adjusters, on the backside of it that probably change the rate of oil flow through it. Each of these has an o-ring where it meets the main body of the "motor" where it screws in. We have blown each of them at one time or another. We do have a selenoid with wires on it controlled by the switch in the cab. I don't believe it is a loose wire or it would work sometimes and not others. I just wish the flow of oil could be shut off from it when it was not being used. Then I could shut it off and keep cutting. The way it is now, it blows and we are stopped for a $.15 o-ring. We finally got smart and carry a few in the cab all the time. Murphy's law says they will always blow at 10 after 5 when the dealerships are closed. Thanks for the response.
