Combines Rebuilding Concave

The lH wear can be cut drastically by installing steep pitch helicals over the thresher and helical extention. This reduces the double pass threshing, it reduces hp requirements and smoothes the crop flow. Having said that, we have built up the grates while still in the machine, cylinder removed, and then hard surfaced the unit. The welders charge a little more and complain a bit but it saves several hours of labor. The lower grate is easier to remove and can be replaced or sent out to have it squared back up. The concaves were different prior to sn 3500 so watch this little item. We had a customer ingest a short log chain and a door wrench a couple of years ago which was left laying in a corn head. We found an assy at salvage and had it hard surfaced, this is when we found about the non interchangeability of the lower grate but I cannot remember what was different..

Bob, Depending on the machine that you have. If it is a 2 series machine I would put the shocks on the rear this year instead of next year. It was the rear drum that was giving the feeding problem on these machines. You will be really impressed on how nice the machine will feed after installing shocks on the rear drum. No more backfeeding.
