Hi there. Glad to know you're not just out there--stuck inside a combine. lOl! Sorry, I just can't get over that. Hey, how far are you from HugotonIJ I used to live there. I really hope you will read this more often since you still don't do e-mail. I'd really love to discuss some value-adding to farm income possibilities.

Hugoton man that is southwest isn't it. i live about 45 minutes northeast of dodge city. i don't really know much about value added farm produce as far as vegetables and stuff like that. i don't really think that it would work out here as well because theres not as many people around. i believe that the best way for me to make money is with my animals. i can sell most of the hogs i raise to local people for their freezers. people buy several pigs this time of year for christmas presents so that helps out with the holidays quite a bit on my end i guess. i kind of think that grains have potential to get better in the next five years with ethanol and the possibility of china demanding more feed grain. which could be a real boon to corn and milo growers but the safer bet is definately ethanol i'd say. so whats your thoughts on that gotta go take care Red

Well, I wasn't really talking about produce or vegetables. I know the market there is quite limited, due to the sparseness of the population. I was thinking more in line with expansions on livestock, perhaps even diversification in the field. So far, you are doing the right thing-directly marketing your products, which also helps to bridge the ever-expanding gap between producer and consumer.
