Pami said they take 35 hp to run behind a 7720 JD in tough wheat. Don't think you have that many spare ponies.

I know of a fellow who has one a 1480 and another who has one on a tr86. Both said they worked GREAT and after the price shock they are happy with them. Best talk to a 1680 owner who has one on it.

The Cat combine chopper rotor and also the John Deere optional fine cut chopper rotor are made by Redekop. I am using one for the first year on a 1480. It doesn't just chop the straw, it turns it into dust. Then it spreads the straw and chaff 30' wide if you want. It doubles as a chaff spreader cause the caff slides down into the chopper. Takes some power, but I think it's worth it. Good guy to talk to is Denny Neubauer at Radcliff, Iowa. His phone is toll free 888-387-2627 or 515-893-2320.

What if I were to use a set of disrupters an install a internal chopper on my 1680. would it do just as good a job as a redekop chopper.

The regular chopper with sickle blades in place of the stationery blades will do a good job of chopping and spreading. May not be the "dust" made by the Redekop, but probably good enough. Check over on the left side of this page to "Topics" then to "Attachment" to see a kit to change to sickle section cutters on the CIH chopper. You can also make the change yourself with a little work. There is another aftermarket chopper called the TSR, I think, that you might look at too.

You can get both the upper and lower sieves out of the rear of the combine without removing the chopper. You may have to remove 2 bolts and take the deflector door off of the chopper to get tje lower sieve out.

I think the MAV will work fine for you. I was in the field last year and they had a MAV on a Massey Ferguson 9790 straight cutting with a 36' draper head. It was a calm day and the straw was going the full 36' and the chaff about 32'-33'. They were running with a single C width belt then and they were experiencing some belt slip. I know this year they are going to a poly v double B width which I think will work well. Good luck.
