Combines Reducing Power to the Reel Breaking Bats

If you installed a relief valve between the hoses that feed the reel's hydraulic motor, you could set the torque that the motor puts out, but not effect the auto-speed feature. I would hook up a pressure guage first and stall out the reel to see what pressure you are getting, then select an adjustable relief valve in the right pressure range. Sorry, but I don't know the costs involvedIJ It's possible that the machine already has a relief valve and you just need to adjust itIJ Mike

Yes, it is possible I run pickup reels on 6 machines and not a one of them without. Just for knowledge look at a Gleaner head, they have had them factory for years now. I am sure some would state that they needed them in the worst way. I just set them at the weakest adj and start turning down until I like the pressure on the reel, just dis-connect the PTO shaft on your header to feederhouse, so you can not get into sickle or auger and adjust, to the tension you like. Just like the belt drive machines they wouldn't tear themselves up. But modern machines wouldn't move their unload auger, reel lift or steering if the Reel pressure was the highest limit. Header lift is on a separate relief valve.
