Combines reel drive connection

That hose will always see hydro charge presure when engine is running. You won't hurt anything by unhooking with engine running but will be hard to do. When you have hose unhooked the oil will be going over a 2000psi relief. I'm quite sure it will be going over that relief even if reel is not turned on. It will certainly be seeing the approx. 500psi hydro charge. If you did not screw coupling all the way together say when roading or running with corn head the oil could be going over the 2000psi valve heating up oil. Hope that helped clear it up.

G'day Dan, I don't quite follow your recent reply, I suppose I am wanting to know whether it is possible to put a Shut off valve in line to allow me to unhook the header with the engine running and whether it will hurt anything. When I connnect the couplings I have full intentions of turning the valve back on to allow full flow during roading, any help will be appreciated. Thanks very much.

You could install valve and not hurt anything but when you close the valve you will lock pressure in reel hoses. Pressure in hoses will be at least hydro charge so hose will be quite hard to uncouple. You would have to dump pressure in reel hoses after shuting a valve to get any benifit.

I just bought my R 62 this year and I am sick of shutting the combine off all the time as well. I had a mechanic in the other day and asked him about putting a tee in each line and then haveing a valve in there which can be opened up when hooking up the hoses. He could not see any problems doing that. Hope this helps Pete
