Combines Reel lift problem on JD 218 Header

Jim, Make sure that the hydraulic auger swing is in neutral. Joeman

The combine is a 7720 Turbo w_ Hydrastatic drive.

Try adjusting the valve. I have never done it on a 20 series but have on an 00. John

as mentioned above, try adjusting the nut on the end of the spool valve for the reel lift under the cab. The nut limits the travel of the valve - how far it opens up - and how fast the reel will drop.

You have dirt packed under nut,or on end of spool cap,on adjusting bolt on right hand end of main hyd. control valve. Some bolts had a plastic cap plug over the end and covering the adjusting nut that trapped just enough dirt to slow down rate of drop. There is a cover under the floor mat just inside the engine side cab door to access this adjusting bolt and nut.
