Does the reel work at allIJ Even at a slow speedIJ Or is it that the adjustable part does'nt workIJ I am going to assume that this is an early model with the pump on the feederhouse, if not, the diagnosing procedures are still about the same but the repair procedures will be different. If the valve worked empty, then it must be either the pump or the motor. Check the pulley on the pump to make sure it does spin the pump shaft. Then check the sprocket on the motor to make sure it has'nt worked loose and is just spinning in the sprocket. If that all looks good, then just slightly loosen the pressure line at the motor and see if oil comes out when it is running. Be very careful and wear eye protection, dont take any safety risks when doing so.

No the reel works just spins at a high rate of speed and the valve doesn't slow it down at all. Seems to be getting all the oil it needs just nothing to restrict it.

While on this subject, my 1660 (1989) reel speed didn't work when we got it, like you described, and the only thing wrong was the ground was not connected good enough, on our machine it was grounded on the feederhouse (don't know if this is factory or notIJ!. Tightened the ground and has been working flawless ever since...*knock on wood*, although sometimes it takes the reel a while to get up to speed and I don't know why!IJ! Also would like to know how much of a job and cost it is to add the variable speed reel switch. This would be a convenience. -Ed

Is the reel speed manual bypass opened upIJ It's the small screw head bolt with a 1_4" nut (7_16" wrench)on the side of the valve. This should be bottomed (screwed in) for the elctrical part of the valve to be able to regulate the flow.
