Combines Relocating

Your best bet would be to move farther west. Any place in the great plains or farther west would be good as long as your not close to a big city. Good luck as I know it will be a hard decision if you decide to. A person can sure get attached to the land, but you have to think of your little farmers and if there will be anything left for them to farm.

Don't come to Nebraska unless you like taxes. The big burr under my saddle is sales tax on farm machinery parts. That is why I try and buy most of my parts out of state so as not to pay the sales tax. I refer to Nebraska as the "Tax me state" instead our state slogan which is referred to as "Nebraska The Good life" Yuh sure.

i live in west central minnesota, great place to farm. Stay south of willmar, west of mankato and things do not seem to change much. The problem i have is this 1031 exchange (i think thats what they call it) farmers close to minneapolis_St.Paul are selling chunks of land around 40,000_acre then look west to buy land around 3500_acre but lot more acres to avoid capital gains. Cant blame the guys, but if you live where i do and want to buy land across the road at auction--- good luck bidding against them! being from tennesee you would have to adjust--it gets cold! you would also have to learn the phrase "OH YA-- YOU BETCHA" (lots of scandanavians like me around) happy new year!

I know your pain, I live about 35 miles north of Memphis in southwest Tn. I have relocated once and am working on doing it agian in the next couple of years. look directly south of you in Macon, Mississippi. I was there ten years ago growing cotton until a tobacco budworm outbreak ate up everybodies cotton in east Missip and western Alabama. It was mostly cows and grains there anyway, the closest gin was over 70 miles away. land was cheap then 500 to 1000 an acre to buy and $45 was considered high when renting. Most everybody there has moved from somewhere else. People from Indiana, ,Illinios, Ohio, lots of Mennonites from Kansas and such. Also an family there from Brownsville, Tn. land was plentiful at the time, landords worked to find tenants for their land, and about 5 years ago land started coming out of CRP there by the bucketfulls. I dont know if it was renewed or if things are still the same down there, when I moved back here in '95 catfish were starting to make an entrance into the farm game there. live in East central Iowa,near a small town that has really expanded,got an 80 in between 2 parts of the town,farming it has become miserable,thinking about selling it off,it's against my principals,but life always changes.I can truly appreciate your problems,good luck.

Yeah, that was the main reason, why I left Germany - too crowded. Now I live in nc Kansas and love it. Through the custom harvest run, I get to see a lot of the midwest and could tell what it is like. There is irrigated farming and dryland farming in various regions with all its advantages and disadvantages. The government is into everything and competition is tough everywhere. If you can sell your land for a high price and come out here you will have the advantage of buying a little cheaper, but might not be liked by your new neighbours. Envious people are everywhere. I would be glad to describe some country to you.

Plan on listing it very soon. Three AGCO dealers, three Case and three John Deere with in 45 miles, plus we live on a hard surface road, five miles from town. Its hard to make a change after 35 years of farming, but needs to be done at some point in time. Good luck to you

Come to Saskatchewan we have everything you could want, cheap land ($300.00-$500.00 acre) wide open space(only a million people live in the province),good fishing and hunting. In the last 5 years people from England, Alberta and Ontario have purchased from retiring farmers and moved here. Neil
