Just replaced my R50 with a 1688. Fuel consumption is at least double on the CIH. (390 litres to do 48 acres of corn). Allis would have done 100. Have done very little wheat with the 1688 but it doesn't seem to have the advantage I imagined. Capacity in soybeans and corn is good but the R50 was not far behind. I'm looking for greater economy at the parts counter. Obviously some of that is going to the fuel company. Parts availability appears better at CIH. Dealers are certainly more common. It is sure nicer to load a grain buggy with the CIH

Compare the 2388 to the R72 and then you will think the other way that the 2388 would compare more to the R62 instead of the R72. An R52 has a lot littler rotor and cleaning then the R62 which has the same cleaning and concave area of the 72 but less hp.Ive drove a R52 and I would'nt have a 52 either they dont seam to have the power that they need in beans. When we ran the R52 we had an old l2 and it would'nt keep up with it in beans.Drive an R72 with the 330hp and the 330 bu hopper and you wont be disappointed I wouldnt think. Illinois Gleaner
