Since the process is a hot dip coating it is very difficult to get it back to the original look. this topic has come up several times in the past. lime away has been mentioned for rust areas. to remove oxide discoloration I mix vinager and automotive wheel cleaner and it leaves a nice appearance next I use a fine automotive buffing compound with a buffer polisher and it finishes very nice. Very difficult to restore the original finish but you can get it very close. I work in Stainless steel and we use an acid passivation process to remove weld color, I plan on giving this a try to see what it can do to the galvanized finish.
