They've got to be timed. A good starting point is for them to be fully extended at the 1 o'clock position, viewing them from the right end of the header.

I took all the fingers out of my head. I installed the flighting extension and it feeds in better then the fingers do and you don't have to worry about the fingers breaking and messing up the auger tube or pushing the floor down or running the fingers thru the machine and breaking the chopper knifes and putting a hole into your fuel tank or going up thru the engine floor.

Sounds like you speak from experiance. Hard to believe that CIH's thin little auger fingers could do so much damage. Of the three brands I've ran (JD, CIH and Massey) the Agco head has the best finger setup. Those things are massive and just don't break or bend. 4 years on a 30' and 4 years on a 25' and I think we have bought 3 or 4 fingers. My 30' has all the originals except 1. Of course its not perfect but it keeps going.

We did the same thing on our Harvestmore (same auger as a 1020) and I don't know why they bother putting fingers it at the factory. We also slowed the auger down this year to the point where you'd think it's way too slow which helped feeding.
